Race Diary
May 2, 2004
This past Friday my husband took me to a CCS practice day at Summit point.
He spent the whole day helping me sort my bike out and get comfortable
with riding it. I had a great time on the bike for the first time. I missed
the first practice session because registration and tech took a little
bit longer than expected. My first session was decent. I was just getting
comfortable with shifting, because I had trouble with that last time. Turns
out there was something my husband had to fix that made it better. I was
definitely slow, but rode the entire session, which was a first for me
in a while! I only got two more sessions during the day because of a bad
accident at the end of the day that took both ambulances off site, but
my last two sessions I got faster each time I rode, and definitely went
faster when I got around other people and had someone to chase. I'm looking
forward to the practice day coming up on the friday of memorial day weekend
at summit.

We just returned from JenningsGP and the first USGPRU East Coast Round.
It was an unbelievable sight to see all of those 125s and 250s! I am really
impressed with Stu and Dennis and what they have done to grow this series
so far. I set out on my TZ to learn a new track and a new bike, and met
with great frustration along the way. I had trouble downshifting the bike.
I'd get into third gear, and couldn't back it out from there, leading to
the bike not warming up correctly and me riding around the track in third
gear thinking I was in first. Trying to learn a new track and a new bike
just wasn't happening, and half way through the day, I decided to spectate
for the weekend. I took lots of great pictures, though, and some video
of the 125, and will post them here shortly.
I rode my 125 for the first time in August on the VIR North course for
a NESBA track day. It became obvious very quickly that I hadn't been on
a bike (or worked out, for that matter) in almost a year and a half. After
two sessions on the bike, I was toast! Not only was I out of shape, but
I was nervous, which made my arms kill from the death grip I had on the
bars. From just the little bit of time I had on the bike, I can tell I'm
going to LOVE it! It's the perfect size for me, and I feel much more comfortable
on it than anything else I've ever ridden. I will say, though, it's going
to take a few more track days to get used to it before I can race it. My
first goal for next year is a few NESBA track days to get myself used to riding this bike!
